Everything you need to know about shower enclosures

Shower cabins are nothing new. Cabins with ingenious shower devices have been made since ancient times. A modern shower cabin may differ in its equipment from those of ancient times, but not in its essence.

One can vividly imagine that humans have wanted to copy nature's flowing/falling water to be able to wash in places other than the river under the waterfall. Evidence has been found that the ancient Egyptians already used devices where the water came from vessels that were tipped.

Actual showers were used by the Greeks in ancient times, who had communal shower rooms.

The Romans were not slow to adopt this from Greek culture as well.

Shower cabins today are not just one thing. We can divide them into traditional shower cabins, where there is a shower and possibly some other nozzles. Then there are various types of combinations with other products such as the steam cabin, which also functions as a steam bath. Finally, there are combination cabins, which have a bathtub or whirlpool as the base, shower and massage nozzles and possibly also a steam generator.

All of these cabins are in principle shower cabins. A shower cabin has a bottom and at least one shower as an integrated part of the cabin. The shower cabin can be open or closed at the top.

Worth knowing about shower and steam cabins

The following can be found in a shower cabin or steam room:

The shower cabins can be equipped with a double bottom specially developed by the SPA company, which makes it easy to clean the drain if necessary. The double bottom consists of two parts, the middle one of which can be lifted. Both parts are supported by solid and adjustable steel legs.

The shower cabins are equipped with a drain with an integrated water trap. In several of the cabins, a hair catcher is also inserted in the drain.

Worth knowing about combi cabins

As mentioned, combination cabins are a combination of several products. The bottom functions as a hot tub, and the cabin is also used as a steam room.

The following can be found in a combi cabin:

What constitutes quality in cabins?

All cabins use tempered safety glass. The back walls are either made of glass or sanitary acrylic, as is the bottom tray, which has a strong and stable stand with adjustable legs.

Wheels for sliding doors

There are countless types of wheels on the market. SPA company uses the best types, based on high quality and design. Where it is technically possible, we use spring-loaded wheels (bottom), which makes it easier to install the doors. The upper wheels are double wheels, which makes the door move easily and stably.

Corner joints

Our most popular models ART and 90E are designed with corner brackets, which simplify the assembly of the cabin. The individual profiles are attached to the bracket one at a time. The bracket is a way to simplify an assembly procedure that often takes place in very limited space.

Assembly without tools

Some shower enclosures have been manufactured with the revolutionary “Easy Way” click system, which allows the enclosure to be assembled without the use of tools. Tools are still required for connecting the water, but the assembly itself is done without them. This makes assembly significantly easier.

The click system provides an equally stable solution as in the older versions, where the profiles had to be screwed in place.

Bottom divided into two sections

Several of our shower cabins are made with a 2-part bottom. This construction makes it easy and hassle-free to clean the drain. By lifting the middle section, you have unobstructed access to the drain pan without having to move the cabin out first. For all cabins, the cabin bottoms are reinforced with an extra layer of strong fiberglass and a stand with many support points, which provides a good, stable bottom. The double bottom solution should not be chosen if the drain is not under the cabin or in combination with a drain pump. In that case, the SPA company recommends the single bottom, which is standard in most shower cabins.

High quality aluminum

Aluminum is treated in many different ways. There are many different surface treatments included in the SPA company's products. For example, matte, brushed and highly polished surfaces can be mentioned. Common to all of them is that we use high-quality surface treatments and opt out of the cheap shiny sprayed alloys.

Anti-limescale nozzles

By equipping body jets, overhead and hand showers with anti-limescale nozzles, cleaning the cabin is made easier. The system works by providing all jet outlets with a similar rubber nozzle. If the nozzle becomes limescaled, you can break up the limescale flakes simply by pressing your finger on the rubber nozzle.

A little more technical…

Water supply

Water supply must be on / in the wall behind the cabin at a height of approximately 1 m. Connect with soft hoses to achieve the greatest possible flexibility

Water pressure

Extra high water pressure is not required for the cabins. A distributor determines whether the water comes out of either the overhead shower, hand shower or body jets. (See the model description on the product card.)

Water consumption is no higher in the most complicated cabin than in the simplest.

Power consumption

Cabins with radio and fan require a regular 240V connection.

Steam cabins use approx. 3kWh when using the steam generator, which will be the maximum load. A steam cabin must therefore be connected to 240V / 13A on its own group. Remember that the electrical connection must be made by an authorized electrician.

Location

Cabins must be placed in a water-proof room with floor drains.

The drain

The drain can be placed anywhere under the cabin. If this is not the case, you should not choose a double bottom solution. To ensure that there is space for a possible water trap, it is a good idea not to place the drain directly under the drain in the sump (See the drawing on the individual product).

Descaling the steam generator

After using the steam generator, excess water is automatically drained directly into the drain. This reduces limescale build-up and the need for descaling.

Self-control

Upon receipt, the customer must check that the packaging is intact and that the product has not been damaged during transport. Before installation, the installer must ensure that all hoses and cables are correctly positioned.

The drain hose is usually only mounted for transport and should be mounted and sealed so that the hose has the correct direction in relation to the floor drain.
