Bathroom furniture and sinks

Ever since people began dedicating a room in their homes to bathing, it has been a requirement to be able to store bathing necessities in this room. From a primitive cupboard, this has evolved into a range of bathroom furniture that not only provides storage space but is also a delight to the eye. The washbasin was also quickly replaced by more permanent solutions.

New materials have made it possible to obtain beautiful furniture and sinks that fit into a modern bathroom and can withstand an environment that can sometimes be quite humid.

Bathroom furniture

A piece of furniture in the bathroom must be able to withstand a little bit of everything. Daily use can be tough on things, so SPA Kompanie's furniture is made of solid, durable materials that can withstand most things.

Cabinets are mostly made of MDF boards, and surface treated so that they are not easily scratched or damaged by water splashes and steam. Where it is not possible to use MDF boards for technical reasons, waterproof plywood is used.

Furniture is supplied either with a high-gloss surface or with a matte surface, which in some cases may have a faint wood structure.

High-gloss surfaces are lacquered with up to 7 layers of lacquer to provide a strong and durable surface that withstands regular cleaning.

MDF

MDF stands for “Medium Density Fiberboard”, and is a board made from wood fibers embedded in a binder (acrylic) under very high pressure. The resulting material is easy to shape and can be used in many ways.

Plywood

Plywood consists of thin layers of wood (veneers) glued together so that the grains in each layer lie across those in the adjacent layers. Plywood sheets are relatively easy to bend without creating weak spots.

Worth knowing about furniture

Assembly

The furniture is delivered fully assembled in units, ready to be set up. The assembly takes place at the factory according to all the rules of the art, ensuring that the cabinet appears stable and strong.

Countertop and sink

The countertop and sink are made of Solid Surface (see below). The sink is either an integrated unit with the countertop or glued under.

The sink is a separate unit and is mounted on the cabinet with strong double-sided adhesive tape.

Mixer tap and drain

Mixer tap not included. SPA company sells a larger selection of fittings that are suitable for the cabinet you choose to purchase.

Drain plug sets are not always included. Please refer to the product sheet for each piece of furniture.

Where it is included, it is in chrome-plated metal.

Soft close

Our drawers are all equipped with the soft close system, which ensures a soft and comfortable closing of the drawer. Deep drawers ensure plenty of storage space.

Mirror

Most of the SPA company's furniture comes with a mirror. The mirror has integrated LED lights. The lights are not intended to illuminate a room alone, but as fill lights that illuminate the face.

LED lights may initially glow more yellow. It may take a few hours for the lights to reach the desired color.

LED mirrors can now also be supplied with anti-fog heating elements.

Wash

The range of sinks includes natural stone sinks and Solid Surface sinks. The sink is either freestanding, intended to be mounted on the wall or a countertop, or integrated into a countertop that is part of a piece of furniture. A third variant is the pedestal sink or column sink, which is a freestanding sink.

Solid Surface

Most sinks are made of a composite material, often called Solid Surface, but which also goes by other names.

The material consists of powdered stone (usually bauxite) that is pressed into a mold together with a binder.

Solid Surface is a material that allows for many ways to shape it. It can be cast into a mold, glued or welded together, giving the designer a wide range of possibilities that are difficult to achieve with other materials.

At the same time, the user gets a product with a surface that is easy to clean and where small scratches can be polished away without major problems. The surface of the product is treated in such a way that the material resembles natural stone or ceramics.

Products cast in mold do not have joints that can collect dirt, and thus provide a breeding ground for bacteria and mold, which is why Solid Surface is generally more hygienic to use than natural stone.

Natural stone

Some of the sinks are carved from natural stone. This gives a slightly more raw look, as natural stone is not a homogeneous material. The color of the surface is also dictated by the material.

Natural stone sinks are usually a lot heavier than Solid Surface sinks. Natural stone usually means stronger shapes.

Worth knowing about washing

Sinks are delivered without a faucet and, as a general rule, without a drain plug set. Both faucets and drain plug sets are sold separately. This gives you the opportunity to find exactly the faucet you like best.

Countertops with integrated sinks are part of a bathroom furniture set, while other sinks and pedestal sinks are sold as stand-alone items.

Some of the pedestal sinks are designed to go with a stone bathtub. However, the sink and bathtub are sold as separate units.

Accessories

The SPA company also stocks accessories for setting up furniture and sinks.

It is important that you choose the right rawl plugs and screws in relation to the wall on which the furniture or sink is to be hung. They are therefore not included in the SPA company's range, and you are referred to a hardware store. Sealing material is more universal and together with valves and drain pipes/hoses they form part of the range. These different parts have standard dimensions.

Maintenance

The furniture is varnished and can be cleaned with ordinary cleaning agents. Avoid using hard brushes or abrasives.

Natural stone is porous, which means that liquids can penetrate and leave stains that are difficult or impossible to remove. Natural stone sinks must not be cleaned with corrosive agents. Use warm soapy water and a soft cloth. In the case of marble, remember that acids and bases as well as alcohol in, for example, food and drinks can cause stains or rough surfaces.

The natural stone sinks are surface treated with a water-repellent seal. This treatment means that liquids do not penetrate the surface as easily. However, this protection is not 100% protection and natural stone requires more care than other materials.

Wipe up spilled liquids immediately and keep the surface dust-free and clean of soap residue, limescale and salts. Wipe the sink after use to prevent limescale formation by allowing water on the surface to evaporate. Never use limescale removers.

The use of abrasives and hard brushes is not recommended. Grit and sand can scratch the surface, and small scratches and other damage to the surface can make the stone more porous, and thus more susceptible to stains.

If there is damage to the surface, a professional repairman can in some cases repair the surface with a sealer.

Solid Surface sinks have a smooth and closed surface, and are therefore easier to keep clean. The surface, like natural stone, can be susceptible to the effects of acids and bases. Wipe up spilled liquids. However, liquids will not penetrate the surface if it is undamaged.

Small scratches can be polished away and larger damage can in some cases be repaired by a professional.

Own control

When receiving shipped goods, it is always important to check whether the packaging has suffered any damage that could result in damage to the product. If you see that the packaging or pallet has suffered damage, it is a good idea to photograph the damage.

Sign with reservations in this case and report it back to the SPA company so that the carrier can be held liable for damage caused during transport. Remember that if you sign without reservations, you are liable for transport damage yourself.

Sinks made of stone or Solid Surface can break. If something has been placed on top of the pallet with the item, the pressure from the load can be so great that this is exactly what happens. Shocks and impacts can also cause damage to both the furniture and the sink, so look carefully before you sign.
