Olivine-diabase sauna stones are the most common and used sauna stones for all types of heaters and are a subvolcanic rock mined in western Finland. This traditional type of stone is durable in structure and thanks to its high density stores and releases heat well. This guarantees perfect steam for the sauna.
In the oven, the stones should be placed around the heating elements, packed with the largest ones at the bottom and not too tightly, so that air can still circulate through the oven to carry the heat out into the room. The elements should be completely covered.
Over time, heat will cause the stones to split, so repack the stove at least once a year. Remove small pieces when repacking, as they pack too tightly and prevent air circulation. Repack so that the elements are still completely covered.
The stones have been tested for their suitability for sauna stoves by the Geological Survey of Finland.
