Alka Down lowers the alkalinity in your hot tub and helps you keep the water in your spa in balance.

If the alkalinity is higher than 120 mg/l, you may experience problems with stuck pH and cloudy water.

You should measure and possibly adjust the alkalinity when changing water, or if you have problems maintaining a stable pH value between 7.0-7.4. The alkalinity should be between 80-120 mg/l.

Alkalinity is measured with strips or a pool patch (7056).

How to lower alkalinity with pH-minus 

When you spread pH-Minus over the entire surface with the pumps running, it primarily affects the pH value. However, by concentrating the acid in one place in stagnant water, you “attack” the water’s buffer capacity (alkalinity) more effectively.

 * Measure your values: Start by measuring the alkalinity (TA). It should be between 80 and 120 mg/l.

 * Turn off the pumps: Make sure the water is completely calm. Turn off all pumps in the spa.

 * Dissolve the product: Measure the correct amount of pH-Minus and dissolve it thoroughly in a clean bucket of lukewarm water.

   > Remember: Always water in the bucket first, then chemicals!

 * Pour carefully: Pour the mixture slowly into the deepest part of the spa in one continuous “jet” or column. This creates a localized zone of low pH that forces the alkalinity down.

 * Let the water rest: Let the spa stand completely still for about 30-60 minutes.

 * Circulation: Turn the pumps back on and let the water circulate for at least 15 minutes before measuring again.

Important to know

When you lower the alkalinity, your pH will often also drop. It may be necessary to adjust the pH up afterwards using pH-Plus, which naturally raises the pH without affecting the alkalinity.
